Grip Control – the foldable thumb rest for Glock pistols

Looking for a thumb rest for your Glock? without having to mount a bulky part on the rail or make any major modifications?

Then the foldable Thumb Rest "Grip Control" from US manufacturer BlackSteel is the perfect upgrade for your Echelon!

The patented, foldable thumb rest simply replaces the original takedown lever and provides an ergonomic support for the thumb of the supporting hand. By resting the thumb on this support, ergonomics are significantly improved, enabling faster, more precise shot sequences!

The major advantage of the Grip Control thumb rests is that they can be replaced without any modifications. Disassemble the pistol, swap the disassembly lever – done! Furthermore, these thumb rests are foldable, which also allows existing holsters to be used (with some necessary adjustments depending on the design/model).

Made from a high-quality metal alloy of steel, aluminum, zinc, and manganese. This blend, developed by BlackSteel, offers very high strength, exceptional hardness, and excellent abrasion and corrosion resistance. The robust alloy ensures that the thumb rest retains its shape even under intensive use and does not react with other metals.

The advantages at a glance:

  • More control: More stable grip - reduces muzzle flip and improves control during fast shots.

  • Improved recoil management: More even force distribution enables faster follow-up shots.

  • Improved sight alignment: More natural sight alignment for faster target acquisition.

  • Improved weapon control: Increased leverage of the support hand improves weapon handling.

  • Unobstructed muzzle: Thumb remains behind the muzzle – no interference from muzzle flash.

  • Universally applicable: These components work with various pistols and shooting styles.

Several sizes (#1, #2 and #3) are available. Please see the "Size Selection Information" tab for more details.

  • "Right-handed" variant = for right-handed users (thumb rest on the left side of the pistol)
  • "Left-handed" variant = for left-handed users (thumb rest on the right side of the pistol)

Information on size selection

Use the deduction as a guide:

The pad should be positioned where your supporting hand thumb would naturally and comfortably rest when gripping.

There is a difference of approximately 10mm (3/8 inch) between each size:

Size #3: furthest forward (farthest from the trigger)

Size #2: middle position

Size #1: closest to the trigger

Why there are different sizes:

Not every pistol is the same – and neither are our hands. Hand size, shape, and strength vary and significantly influence how a weapon is held and controlled. Therefore, manufacturers offer different grip sizes, angles, textures, and contours. Some pistols even have interchangeable backstraps. Grip optimization accessories can help customize the grip to your hand, improve hold, better control recoil, and thus increase control and shooting performance.

Furthermore, it also depends on the application. If it's simply used for storage to improve ergonomics, a position further forward might be more comfortable.

For dynamic disciplines like IPSC , the thumb rest should be closer to the trigger so that more force and therefore more counter-pressure can be generated.

The effect of Grip Control:

The Grip Control thumb rest takes this interplay between hand and pistol to a new level:

You'll immediately notice a greater sense of control. The goal is a modern, stable, "thumb-forward grip"!

Important information regarding placement:

It's impossible to define a general rule or fixed guideline for size selection. With smaller weapons, there's often simply not enough space to position the thumb rest further forward. Furthermore, the weapon's mechanical characteristics can impose limitations.

But even though the grip is crucial for fast and precise shooting, the thumb rest must also be considered. It is not necessary to sit in the best position with millimeter precision to be "perfect" in order to be very effective.

Impact of size on performance:

Tests showed that speed and precision are generally not significantly affected by the size used.

Exception:

For very small hands – if size #3 is not attainable, a smaller size should be chosen.

FAQ

Can I install the Grip Control thumb rest myself?

Yes, you can generally install this thumb rest yourself.

How difficult is it to install the Grip Control thumb rest?

Installation can range from very easy in a few seconds (e.g., Glock) to slightly difficult requiring several minutes (e.g., SIG P365).

Does anything need to be modified on the pistol?

No, only the original locking lever or disassembly lever (depending on the model) is replaced with the Grip Control. Installation is therefore very simple and can also be easily reversed.

Is any special tool required for installation?

Most Grip Control products require no tools at all. For some, a small tool like a pin, small screwdriver, or similar is helpful. Some models include an installation tool.

Can the Grip Control thumb rest break?

Theoretically, any component can break, however, to date there has not been a single reported case where this thumb rest has broken.

How much pressure can the Grip Control thumb rest withstand?

The Grip Control Thumb Rest is extremely stable and robust for its small size. In tests, up to 180 lbs of pressure were applied to the thumb rest without any damage. For comparison, an average shooter applies approximately 10-20 lbs of force to the thumb rest.

What material is the Grip Control thumb rest made of?

The Grip Control thumb rest is made of a special alloy called "Aetheriumite®". This is a proprietary development of BlackSteel USA, combining specific elements and processes to create an alloy that offers high tensile strength, exceptional toughness, and extreme resistance to wear and deformation. It does not react with other metals and leaves no abrasion marks. Derivatives of this alloy are widely used in the chemical, marine, aerospace, and machine tool industries for gears, bushings and bearings, pumps, and valves.

Is there a manufacturer's warranty on Grip Control products?

Yes, every Grip Control thumb rest is covered by a lifetime manufacturer's warranty.

How does the Grip Control thumb rest work?

The Grip Control thumb rest replaces the original disassembly lever (Slide Lock), allowing the thumb of the support hand to rest on the foldable thumb rest. This provides a much stronger grip for better recoil control.

Does the Grip Control thumb rest change anything about the function of the weapon?

No, the function remains unchanged. Only the disassembly of the weapon may be slightly different.

Does the Grip Control thumb rest change how the weapon performs?

The pistol's performance remains unchanged. However, it will change how you use the pistol.

Are the Grip Control thumb rests available in other colors?

Yes, depending on the model, the thumb rests are available in black, FDE, or gold. More color options will follow in the future.

Will the Grip Control thumb rest fit my XXXXX holster?

This thumb rest was specifically designed for use with holsters, with a focus on Kydex holsters for concealed carry. However, it is an aftermarket part and therefore adds some bulk. Some holsters can accommodate the Grip Control rest without modification, while others will require adjustments. In most cases, these adjustments can be made by heating. In rare cases, or depending on the holster material and construction, further work with a Dremel tool may be necessary.

Are there also left-handed versions?

Yes, many models also have a left-handed version. If available, it will be listed as an option for the respective model.

What coating is used on the Grip Control thumb rest?

It's Cerakote. This is a very durable ceramic coating that is widely used in the arms industry.

Do I need to adjust the way I grip the pistol?

It all depends on how you learned to hold a pistol. In any case, every pistol should be held with a thumb-forward grip. The Grip Control thumb rest only helps to significantly reinforce the grip.

Grip Control - That's Real Gun Control!

With an unshakable grip, confidence is enhanced, focus is sharpened, speed is increased, and groups are tightened… Grip Control (Patented) will deliver.
