Choosing the right size:

28" - corresponds to a total length of 90cm
34" - corresponds to a total length of 105cm
36" - corresponds to a total length of 116cm
40" - corresponds to a total length of 126cm
44" - corresponds to a total length of 136cm
48" - corresponds to a total length of 146cm
50" - corresponds to a total length of 151cm
55" - corresponds to a total length of 164cm

The inches given already correspond to the approximate waist circumference that matches the belt length.

However, the correct size for the belt can be determined very easily:

The belt should overlap by about 15 cm. That is, it should overlap by about 10 cm (at least!), or be longer than your waist circumference.

If you arrive at an average size when calculating, it's better to always choose a belt one size larger!
