The Glock Gen 6 has been on the market since January 20, 2026 – initially as the G17, G19, G45 and G49, all chambered in 9 mm Luger. The question we have been asked most frequently ever since: "Do my existing Gen 5 parts still fit the Gen 6?"
The short answer: Many do – but the critical slide internals, the trigger, the barrel, the recoil spring assembly and the optics mounting do not. The detailed answer follows here, backed by the original part numbers from the current GLOCK spare parts list.

What Has Fundamentally Changed on the Glock Gen 6
Four changes determine compatibility:
- New "ORS" optics mounting system instead of MOS. Red dot sights are screwed directly to the slide via thin polymer adapter plates included with the pistol. Old MOS plates no longer fit.
- Back to the one-piece recoil spring assembly. Instead of the dual recoil spring assembly of the Glock Gen 4/5, Generation 6 (9 mm) once again uses a one-piece recoil spring assembly.
- New firing pin and new extractor. The firing pin channel is narrower, the extractor is a new three-part component, and the slide cover plate (backplate) has a different shape. The slide internals are therefore no longer compatible with the Gen 5.
- Flat-face trigger and new ergonomics. Flat trigger from the factory, frame with an integrated, extended beavertail, trigger guard undercut, textured thumb rest and new RTF6 texture.

The current GLOCK spare parts list carries the following parts for the Gen 6 models under exactly the same part number as for the Gen 5 – they are 1:1 interchangeable:

Practical consequence: When switching from Gen 5 to Gen 6, you can keep using your magazines, GMS sights, magazine catches, slide stop levers and connectors – or order the same Glock spare parts as before. Corresponding tuning parts for the Glock should fit as well, provided the underlying original part is also unchanged on the Gen 6.

Practical consequence: Everything that works inside the slide behind the barrel – firing pin, extractor, slide cover plate – as well as the trigger, trigger mechanism housing and recoil spring assembly must be purchased as the Gen 6 version. A Gen 5 spare parts stock will not help you here.
Special case recoil spring assembly:
The Gen 6 returns to the one-piece recoil spring assembly – according to the GLOCK spare parts list, the G17 and G19 Gen 6 share the same part number 2457. The Gen 6 recoil spring assembly is listed in our shop as its own variant. The dual recoil spring assemblies of the Gen 4/5 do not fit the Gen 6 – and vice versa.
Barrel, slide and frame:
Because of the changed locking and barrel geometry, Gen 6 barrels are incompatible in both directions with earlier generations: a Gen 6 barrel does not fit a Gen 5 slide, and a Gen 5 barrel does not fit the Gen 6 – not even if it can be inserted mechanically.
Optics Mounting: ORS Instead of MOS – What Does That Mean in Practice?
The new Gen 6 Optic Ready System (ORS) replaces the familiar MOS system. The key difference: the red dot sight is screwed directly to the slide – the thin polymer adapter plate in between merely serves as a footprint-specific spacer. The result is a deeper mount with a lower height over the bore axis.
- Three ORS adapter plates are included with the pistol. According to official Glock information, they cover the following footprints:
- Plate 02: Trijicon RMR footprint (e.g. Trijicon RMR/SRO, Holosun 407C/507C/508T/507Comp)
- Plate 03: C-More footprint
- Plate 04: DeltaPoint Pro footprint (e.g. Leupold DPP, EOTech EFLX, Vortex Defender)
- Replacement set according to the GLOCK spare parts list: part 76269 (incl. screws)
- Old MOS adapter plates do NOT fit the Gen 6 – for Gen 4/5 pistols, the Glock MOS adapter plates remain available
- Cover plate for use without an optic according to the spare parts list: part 75978
Magazines:
All 9 mm Glock magazines (excl. Slimline) continue to fit – from the 10-round to the 33-round magazine. The Gen 6 ships from the factory with orange-follower magazines – according to the spare parts list with exactly the same part numbers as the Gen 5 (G17: part 39328 / G19: part 39231). Holsters – Does the Gen 6 Fit a Gen 5 Holster?
In most cases yes – the external dimensions are nearly unchanged compared to the Gen 5. With tightly molded Kydex holsters, however, a test fit is recommended – among other things because of the newly shaped thumb rest on the Gen 6. IPSC Production – Is the Glock Gen 6 Approved?
Yes – on the official Production Division List (as of March 2026), the IPSC lists the note "Gen 6 of models approved in current list" under GLOCK. Since the G17, G19 and G45 are on the list, they are also permitted in the Production Division as Gen 6 versions. So if you are considering competing in Production with the Gen 6, you can do so right away.

Aftermarket Tuning on the Gen 6 – What to Watch Out For
- Connectors: identical part numbers – proven options such as the "dot" connector (part 7965) or the 2.0 kg minus connector (fits Gen 1–6) remain usable.
- Trigger group: Gen 5 trigger parts generally do not fit due to the changed trigger mechanism housing and the new trigger geometry. Only use parts with an explicit Gen 6 approval from the respective manufacturer! According to informal reports, a Glock Performance Trigger for the Gen 6 is expected soon. An exact release date is not known.
- Firing pin and spring kits for the slide: only use dedicated Gen 6 versions!
- Important: Modifications are carried out at your own responsibility and must be performed by a certified gunsmith.

Do Gen 5 magazines fit the Glock Gen 6?
Yes. All existing 9 mm Glock magazines (except Slimline) are fully compatible – the Gen 6 uses the same magazine part numbers as the Gen 5.
Does a Gen 5 barrel fit the Glock Gen 6?
No. The barrel and locking geometry has been changed – barrels are incompatible in both directions and must not be used across generations.
Can MOS adapter plates be reused on the Gen 6?
No. The Gen 6 uses the new ORS system with its own adapter plates, which are included with the pistol. MOS plates only fit Gen 4/5 MOS models.
Is the Gen 6 firing pin interchangeable with the Gen 5?
No. The firing pin (part 77826) and the extractor assembly (part 75730) are Gen 6 specific new parts. Only the firing pin spring (part 63) and the firing pin safety (part 33781/33782) have remained identical.

Which red dot footprints does the Gen 6 support from the factory?

Is the Glock Gen 6 IPSC Production legal?
Yes. The official IPSC Production Division List (as of March 2026) approves the Gen 6 of all models already listed – which means the G17, G19 and G45 of Generation 6 are eligible to compete in the Production Division.
Which Glock Gen 6 models are currently available?

On the Glock Gen 6, magazines, sights and several controls from the Gen 5 still fit. The firing pin, extractor, trigger, barrel, recoil spring assembly and optics mounting, on the other hand, are completely new, dedicated Gen 6 parts. When ordering spare and tuning parts, always look for the explicit Gen 6 designation.
